Deciding when to schedule your senior session can be quite a challenge! Would you prefer the vibrant greens and yellows of summer or the cozy oranges of fall? Both seasons offer stunning backdrops for senior photos. Let me, your favorite Vermont Senior Photographer, share some real session pictures from both season’s and provide you with some key points to consider as you make your choice.
The Colors of Summer vs. Fall
The summer months are characterized by bright yellows and lush greens, while fall showcases warm shades of orange and red. However, one challenge of scheduling a fall session in Vermont is its unpredictability. The timing and duration of fall foliage can vary greatly, making it tricky to plan the ideal session, as we can never be certain when the peak colors will appear.
School Starts and Fall Activities Begin
Autumn in Vermont is undoubtedly a spectacular display of vibrant colors—rich oranges, yellows, and reds. However, this season also marks the beginning of the school year. For seniors participating in fall sports, finding a suitable date for their photo session can be challenging. If inclement weather forces a rescheduling, it can complicate the search for a date that aligns with both the senior’s and the photographer’s availability. In contrast, summer typically offers greater flexibility for scheduling, ensuring we can choose the ideal weather conditions for your senior session.
Session Start Times
The arrival of fall brings earlier session times in the evening compared to the summer months. Personally, I schedule fall sessions to begin around 4:00-4:30 PM from late September through October. In contrast, summer sessions (June to August) typically start around 5:30 PM. These times are chosen specifically to take advantage of sunny days and capture the enchanting golden hour glow.
Additionally, yearbook due dates significantly influence when to book your session. Photographers follow a specific routine and process for post-session work, making it challenging to schedule a session close to these deadlines and expect them to alter their workflow. To ensure your photographer has ample time to create stunning senior pictures without feeling rushed, be sure to book your session well in advance.
